Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) / +2 - 2006
22 May 2006 - Releasing the results, Mr.T.Jagannathan, Director of Government Examinations said that as many as 3,89,244 students have passed, out of the 5,76,948 students who appeared for the examination in March 2006. The percentage of students who passed the Plus Two (HSC) Examinations this year shows a drop of 2.3 per cent from last year’s results – 74.5% this year as compared to 76.8% of 2005.

V.Bharathram of Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Nanganallur, Chennai topped the list with 1180/1200 marks.

S.Santhaprakash and T.C.Viveksandeep of DAV Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai shared the second place with 1179/1200 marks. G.Banupriya of S.V. Mandir Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai scored 1177/1200 marks and secured the third place.

N.Kavya, a student of Ahobila Mutt Higher Secondary School, West Mambalam, Chennai has scored 1186/1200 would have been the topper in the Plus Two examination but since she did not opt for Tamil as her second language (Sanskrit as her second language).

As usual, girls outshone boys in the examination with the number of girls who have passed being 2,08,267 as compared to 1,80,977 boys. The percentage of girl students who have passed the examination is 77.1 percent while 71.7 percent of the boys passed.

The number of centums in individual subjects has seen a drastic fall compared to last year.
