Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) / +2 (State Board) / XII / 12th - Results 2004

Wednesday, 12 May 2004 - The overall success rate in the higher secondary (Standard XII) examinations in Tamil Nadu has improved from 75.2 per cent last year to 76.3.

The Director of Government Examinations, C. Palanivelu, who officially released the results today, said 5,54,961 students appeared for the examinations held from March 10 to 31 (up from 5.03 lakhs in 2003).

This year the top ranker is T. Nivethitha from St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi, who secured 1183 out of 1200 marks. The official top scorers are selected only from those who opt for Tamil as the second language. Three students with 1180 were officially placed second and seven with 1178 were third rankers.

The number of students with an aggregate of 60 per cent or above went up to 2,92,204 from 2,59,946 last year.

"Not only in number, even in the quality of education, this year students did well, if we go by the number of persons who got first class. Also, 1,433 students have got centum in mathematics against 600 last year," said Dr. Palanivelu.

In physics 625 candidates have secured centum; chemistry 744; biology 655; botany 24; zoology 7; computer science 217; commerce 118; accountancy 725 and business mathematics 38. Mark certificates will be distributed to all students including private candidates on May 21.
